Responsibilities

SUMMARY:

DreamWorks Animation Television is seeking a Pre-school Development Director who will be focused on pre-school series. The ideal candidate has successfully developed pre-school series in the past, has a strong network of artists and writers, understands the issues that arise in development and production of animated series, and wants to closely work with writers and artists to develop original series.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Creative

  • Collaborates with key creatives (EPs, Writers, Artists) on development projects

  • Identifies and cultivates fresh ideas

  • Takes initiative and can work with creative teams to move projects forward

  • Interprets and translates notes from creative discussions and ensure timely distribution to Executives and Talent

  • Provides notes and creative input on scripts and reading materials with a strong knowledge of story structure and character development

  • Gives clear and supportive feedback to creative teams

  • Builds rapport and maintains relationships with management companies and talent agencies in an effort to find new writers, artists and directors

  • Sources possible materials, books, stories and scripts for consideration in future television projects

  • Independently identifies potential talent (i.e. Directors, Animators) and provides initial list to Executives

  • Fosters close working relationships with creative teams

  • Actively part of creative and development process to generate pre-school series bibles, scripts and character designs as well as pitch documents

  • Collaborates with other Development Executives on projects and works well in a team setting to support and improve all projects in development

Administrative

  • Manage budget and deals associated with development

  • Ensures that the department resources (i.e. drafts, notes, research materials) are maintained in an orderly and accessible manner

  • Manages the department coordinators, assistants and interns as they work on assigned projects

  • Provides direction to the administrative staff and ensures that work has been distributed efficiently

Desired Characteristics

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a Development Executive preferred

  • Excellent people management skills

  • Strong communication, leadership and management skills

  • In depth knowledge of animation production and studio community critical

  • Experience at a TV network or content platform highly preferable

  • A strong desire to innovate

  • Strong presentation skills very valuable
