TODAY Digital, the multi-platform arm of America’s favorite morning show, is looking for an editor with a keen news sense and judgment. S/he has captained daily news coverage as well as big special projects, series, and social-first video. This editor will have a natural instinct for what makes a TODAY story, from article to social post to video, and will be comfortable both writing posts as well as working with freelance writers. S/he will work closely with digital and broadcast producers to create accompanying web content for show segments. Calm and creative thinkers only apply. Candidates must display superior organizational skills. This is a unique opportunity to be the digital component of a complex news organization. Applicants should display a mentoring spirit. The candidate will work with editors on different teams – all working on different tasks and moving at different speeds. Job Duties

  • Have an appreciation for TODAY’s broad range of topics and personalities

  • Contribute content, including assigning, editing and writing daily stories and multimedia features

  • Monitor news & audience appetite and respond with a take or angle relevant to our brand, from wrangling original essays to spotting breakouts worthy of standalone headlines

  • Work closely with broadcast bookers, producers and correspondents to tell stories across the brand’s platforms

  • Manage a roster of freelance writers and recruit new writers

  • Familiarity with data analytics tools and ability to incorporate data into decision making


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 4+ years of journalism, with a heavy focus on news content

  • 2+ years of experience working in an exclusively digital journalism shop

  • An understanding of how stories are shared and consumed differently across digital, social and mobile platforms

  • The ability to use analytics to help guide story selection

  • Proven experience overseeing successful original video series

  • A mentoring spirit and experience managing writers and editorsStrong and fast writing and editing; clever and SEO-friendly headlining; light multimedia skills (resizing images, creating social videos)

  • A gut instinct for a good story and quick decisiveness on angles and assignmentsAdditional Job Requirements
