Position Overview:

The Managing Editor will oversee the pitching and production of our branded content across four sites: today.com, cnbc.com, msnbc.com, and NBC News. Reporting to the Editorial Director of Branded Content, the Managing Editor will collaborate with our sales and marketing teams to respond to new partner opportunities, while also serving as the editorial lead on all branded campaigns and ensuring that all content (whether articles, videos, or graphics) meets standards and achieves campaign goals. As a creative pioneer with a passion for developing unique partner solutions, the Managing Editor will be an expert at marrying NBC’s publishing ethos with a brand’s purpose and mission. The Managing Editor will also take the lead in creating a robust network of freelance creatives, and in fostering collaborative editorial relationships across each of our sites.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Execute our branded campaigns from beginning to end — from brainstorming creative concepts for new partner opportunities, to writing creative strategy for RFPs, to creating or assigning branded content and providing creative guidance on photo and video shoots

  • Build campaigns that target a variety of client KPIs (including brand awareness, purchase intent, and consumer relevance) while hitting audience metrics

  • Work with the Editorial Director to develop best practices for RFPs and branded content production

  • Communicate with sales and marketing teams to ensure creative concepts are clear and meet editorial standards

  • Contribute to the creation of storyboards, maintain editorial calendars for campaigns, and work closely with the branded content Production Manager to control schedules and enforce deadlines

  • Leverage data insights from campaigns to both create more powerful content and tell a campaign success story

  • Oversee the hiring and management of freelance content strategists and producers

  • Interface directly with clients’ marketers, brand managers, and social media teams

  • Partner with sales and sales marketing teams on the key tenants of messaging, pitching, marketing materials and presentations

  • Help lead key account sales meetings from an idea creation perspective

  • Build individual brand equity for each of NBCU’s sites

  • Liaise with editorial to shape revenue generating custom ideas


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • At least eight (8) years of experience in digital creative roles of ascending responsibility

  • Proven track record of developing creative advertising and native solutions for major brands across a variety of consumer categories

  • Experience launching new digital platforms or products highly desired

  • Experience growing audience for a site vertical highly desired

  • Experience working closely with tech and/or product teams is highly desired

  • Good understanding of audience acquisition channels (social, email, etc)

  • Good understanding of video, both in a strategic and a production sense

  • Strong analytics experience using Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, and ChartBeat and other toolsEligibility Requirements:
