Role Summary/Purpose:

The Producer will work with the national political correspondent to research, write and produce content for MSNBC and NBC News. This position is responsible for producing original news content, primarily for broadcast, including research, writing and editing scripts, producing interactive segments and conducting interviews. Producer is expected to both pitch story ideas and work on assigned stories developed by the editorial team.

Job Duties:

• Work with the national political correspondent on political content across all platforms, including on air segments and anchoring for MSNBC dayside and prime time; on air segments on NBC News; and reported articles for NBC News digital

• Produce and oversee scripts, graphics, research and fact-checking for on air segments

• Spot political data points, trends, and statistical comparisons and translate them into compelling television segments that will enhance MSNBC and NBC's daily political coverage

• Conduct reporting, source interviews and deep political research for original stories

• Communicate and coordinate with show teams and control rooms during LIVE coverage

• Develop story ideas and recognize stories with high potential for provocative, compelling political coverage television and pitch them

• Work with show teams, artworks, election desk, interactive graphics team, and standards to ensure all election data reported on air is accurate an adheres to NBC News standards

• Coordinate with technical teams to improve editorial functionality of election app

• Field produce as needed


Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in show producing, segment producing, control room experience, experience covering both domestic and international stories

• Previous network or cable network television experience

• Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college

• Must have a deep knowledge of politics
