The Sr. Director, NBC News Communications will drive the overall press strategy and day-to-day media relations for “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” as well as work closely with the NBC News PR team on breaking news, special reports, international, investigations and digital initiatives. The ideal candidate will work aggressively to secure multi-platform PR opportunities to generate optimal publicity for the network’s programming, content, and talent. The candidate will lead varied projects including writing releases; pitching stories and interviews; and generating briefing notes, clip reports, and Q&As. The candidate will also oversee ratings publicity and act as a spokesperson on behalf of relevant programs and talent.

Job Duties

  • Manage and execute the press strategy for “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” as well as the programs’ relevant anchors, correspondents, and executives

  • Promote show content, digital initiatives, and editorial achievements; communicate ratings data; and play a key role in building talent profiles and positioning the brands

  • Serve as a media strategist and spokesperson for talent and programs

  • Foster strong contacts with print, digital, national, and trade media

  • Pitch ideas and create promotional opportunities for talent and programs

  • Coordinate media interviews, photo shoots, and publicity opportunities

  • Generate press materials, including press releases, bios, talking points, tweets, and pitch letters

  • Oversee ratings publicity for relevant shows

  • Possess a strong understanding of and experience with social media

  • Monitor competitive environment and industry trends

  • Coordinate with executives, producers, NBC Standards and Legal on approval of written materials

  • Lead and develop a team


Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years relevant media relations and communications experience

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Willingness to travel and work after hours and on weekends with short notice

  • Experience in news and journalism a strong plus

  • Strong news judgment and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment

  • Proven experience working with all levels of executives, talent, and media

  • Knowledge of Nielsen Media Research

  • Ability to work across and balance multiple teams and projects

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or equivalentAdditional Job Requirements
