Responsibilities

This position reports to the CTO of Digital Products & Interactive Media and is based in NYC. This position is pivotal to the success of Digital Products & Interactive Media group at NBCU and a key member of the DPIM executive team. The significance of this position has grown recently with the migration of all DPIM products and services into Public Cloud, in addition to measuring Scalability & Availability as the key success criteria for NBCU digital products. At DPIM, the Operations group is integral to our product development and works in close collaboration with the Digital Engagement, Product Management, Software Engineering, Software Quality Engineering teams and an active participant and contributor in the SCRUM team structure. The Operations team at DPIM understands the key product features to triage all Level 1 and Level 2 issues and to route Level 3 product support calls on a 24X7 basis to the appropriate software engineering team members. The Operations group is also responsible for maintaining the Akamai CDN fabric for most of the brands at NBCU. This group is also responsible for implementing the runtime operational tools for monitoring, logging & reporting in support of development, testing and finance related activities. Recently the team has been active in implementing Kubernetes containers and has committed to migrate all DPIM products into K8s by the end of Q4 2017.

  • Manage a team of 9 full-time and 48 consultants between US, Minsk and India.

  • Hiring approved key personnel & talent on a timely basis.

  • Responsible for all availability & scalability service level agreements (SLA) of all products in the production environment. This position has the authority and the right to refuse to propagate the code to production, if there is evidence that the above SLA’s will be adversely impacted.

  • Responsible for the efficient functioning of the product support team on a global basis for all the products hosted by DPIM on a 24X7 basis.

  • Responsible for planning and implementing the yearly Operations budget and meeting the agreed upon fiduciary guidelines & duties.

  • Proactively work with senior management for effective and efficient cost control mechanisms and implementation.

  • To develop & implement long term plans for providing efficient, effective & secure compute platforms for DPIM products & services either using Containers such as Kubernetes or using services available in the Public cloud.

  • To participate on the outage calls and provide root cause analysis (RCA) as and when the event warrants.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • At least 10+ years experience in the Engineering Operations role, in addition to demonstrating a trajectory of successful career growth in the last 5-6 years.

  • Demonstrate the ability to manage large teams that are geographically dispersed.

  • Ability to demonstrate hands-on engineering operational experience in large media organizations.

  • Hands-on hosting experience with public cloud providers such as AWS and Google Cloud.

  • Personal integrity, attention to detail and follow through is critical to the success of this role.

  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple brands with competing priorities.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner with DPIM team members and brand technology leads as and when situation arises.

  • Proven track record of managing multi million dollar budgets.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills.

  • B.S or M.S in Engineering or Computer Science will be preferred
