Job Description

SUMMARY: The purpose of the Hardware Technician is to repair, install, maintain and order all hardware related to architectural construction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • New installation of Von Duprin, Schlage, Corbin Russwin, Kaba simplex, LCN, Norton, and Rixson hardware.

  • Trouble shoot different types of doors including hardware.

  • Oversee hardware being installed on new projects.

  • Ordering door hardware replacements parts and keep inventory.

  • Create and track work orders.

  • Preventative maintenance on hinges and pivots and adjusting door closers and using a door coordinator.

  • Disassemble and change functions on Schlage mortise hardware.

  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Orlando policy, procedures, training and Team Member involvement activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SCOPE: Semi-routine; majority of work covered by established procedures; detailed understanding of work unit.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

  • Microsoft Office, Typing, Customer Service Orientation, Flexibility, Organizational Skills, Writing, Maximo, Multi-Tasking

  • Required to perform simple computer tasks and pass the Internal Staffing test for Word, Excel and typing. In depth knowledge of Maximo system is required.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Consistent attendance is a job requirement.

EDUCATION:

  • High school degree or GED required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • High school along with at least level 1 in the door and hardware institutes training programs of its equivalent. Experience in locksmithing a necessity, 1-2 years at least five years in the hollow metal industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Will require a valid Florida state driver’s license.

  • Regularly (2/3 of the time or more) stand for prolonged periods; walk for prolonged periods (including ability to walk at a given pace that is predetermined by a moving sidewalk); talk; hear audible alarms, voice commands with background noise; use hands and fingers to grip, pinch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; climb stairs and ladders; able to work at heights for prolonged periods of time including heights with or without railings or over open pits greater than 4 feet; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; reach, pull, push with hands and arms above and below head; lift and push up to 50 pounds with control; able to maintain alertness and attentiveness up to 4 hours while working varying hours; able to maintain concentration/focus (e.g., ability to interpret the work environment and make decisions on predetermined operating policies and procedure); repeat motions more than twice per minute.

  • Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) able to work in an environment subject to vibrations; repeatedly use an input device-a keyboard or mouse-in a steady manner; able to work in varied light conditions including low or diminished lighting; able to work in an environment with flashing lights including strobe lamps; able to work in small or tight spaces.

  • Occasionally (1/3 of the time or less) work in confined spaces i.e. Manholes or work pits; taste; smell.

  • Specific vision requirements for this role may include: close vision with or without corrective lens (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision with or without corrective lens (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); depth perception (vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus while in changing light conditions e.g., sunshine to indoor or dark conditions).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is required to:

  • Regularly (2/3 of the time or more) work in outdoor weather conditions to include direct sunlight, heat or cold; work in extreme heat (non-weather); excavate more than 4 feet; work in an environment with loud noise (noise when raised conversation is needed).

  • Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) work in wet, humid conditions (non-weather); use an Extendable Boom Forklift (Lull); use forklift (sit down); use a stand up forklift or motorized pallet jack; erect or work on scaffolding; use a Highreach (Aerial lift).

  • Occasionally (1/3 of the time or less) work in extreme cold (non-weather); work with cranes; work with fumes or airborne particles requiring the use of a respirator; welding, cutting, brazing, or working with open flame; work with toxic or caustic chemicals, hazardous chemicals, fluorescent lamps or batteries; work with paint/solvents; work with oils/fuels; work with aerosols (spray paints, brake cleaner); work with Pyrotechnics/Explosives; exposure to bodily fluids (blood, vomit); exposure to lasers, radiation equipment, and or electromagnetic forces; work on water attractions or yachts; perform maintenance or servicing of powerized (energized) equipment (pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical) LOTO
