The Core Platform team at NBC News Digital designs, builds and supports the content creation/curation tools, platform services and API’s that power multiple web, mobile and connected TV apps across world-class News brands like TODAY, NBC News and MSNBC. • Design, implement, test, and maintain the core Drupal CMS’s that power NBC News Group’s digital properties such as NBCNews.com, Today.com and MSNBC.com.

• Collaborate with Project Managers, Software Engineers and Designers on projects with clear business impact and high public visibility

• Engage in team work and collaboration

o Actively participate in design discussions and code reviews

o Eager to learn new things and share ideas with peers

• Be comfortable with Agile software development

o Participate in Scrums, iterations, planning, estimating and retrospectives

• Have knowledge and experience with software development lifecycles

o Design simple, elegant and extensible architecture

o Deliver performant solutions capable of handling large traffic loads

o Validate and tests code deliverables

o Include Unit Testing as part of standard development process

o Conscientiously involved in the deployment and maintenance of applications

o Debug and troubleshoots issues efficiently

o Advocate for and follow best practices

• Demonstrate a high degree of proficiency with interpreted languages like Javascript, PHP, Python, Ruby, etc.

• Possess familiarity with one or more strongly-typed modern development languages such as Golang, Java, C#, etc.

• Work with limited supervision and technical guidance; exercise creativity

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related area, with at least 3-5 years of experience

• In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, extensive coding skills, web development experience and familiarity with the field's concepts, practices and procedures is required.

• Expertise in software engineering principles as outlined above

• Strong understanding of Service Oriented Architecture and/or RESTful APIs

• Extensive Drupal 7 development experience.

• Understanding of what requirements and features go into a scalable product

• Awareness of HTTP concepts, protocols, web servers and services

• Experience participating in a project team with 3+ people.

• Experience working on a public, large-scale web site

• Pursues work with enthusiasm, drive and a strong sense of accomplishment
