NBC Digital Entertainment is looking for an experienced leader for our data engineering team. As the Manager of Data Engineering, you will oversee the build out of our EDW and Data Lake. You will lead a team of Engineers and Contractors to architect, design, and implement cloud-based data solutions. You will partner with multiple business teams to provide critical data needs that will help drive their initiatives. This is a highly visible role that will work closely with multiple levels of leadership and groups within the NBC Digital Entertainment organization.
Drive the vision and roadmap for the Data Engineering team. Implement best practices to ensure operational excellence and data integrity. Manage prioritizations by partnering with multiple teams, including Data Science, Product, Marketing, Social, Biz Dev, and Strategy.
Build out and manage Data Lake in AWS S3. Create extensible framework to support BI, Data Science, and data application needs. Optimize data lake processes for search, security, and integrity. Create data integration processes to ingest data from multiple API sources.
Build out and manage DW in Redshift to fulfill downstream reporting and analytics needs. Create and standardize complex ETL pipelines. Optimizing performance of daily processes and query performance.
Design and architect solutions for real-time data applications. Create data flows that allow for fast data retrieval through NOSQL databases. Work with Data Scientists to tune and test recommendation algorithms in DynamoDB.
Create entitlement framework that allows for secure access to the data. Implement IAM security controls for separate data sets and Users.
Provide data governance and address data quality issues. Work with multiple business team to define data requirements and provide QA. Proactively recommend data solutions to meet requests made by the business.
Project Manage work through Agile development. Establish best practices for Sprints and maintain wiki documentation.
8+ years of applied work experience in Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, and or BI.
3+ years of managing a team. Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and cultivate team members.
BS, MS, and/or PHD in Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other technical field. Master’s Degree PreferredEligibility Requirements:

Experience in ETL, Data Warehousing, and Data Modeling. Preferred experience working on large projects utilizing AWS tools: S3, Redshift, Dynamo DB, EC2, EMR, and Data Pipeline.
Experience with Big Data technologies such as Hive, Spark, Hadoop and/or EMR. Preferred experience working with Spark / PySpark.
Proficient in SQL, Data Warehousing and RDBMS best practices
Proficient coding with one of the programming languages: Python, Scala, Java, etc.
UNIX /Command Line experience.
Proven ownership abilities. Can deliver results with a sense of accountability and proactivity.
Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast paced, high throughput environment.
Previous experience working with large datasets with multiple clients.
Ability to effectively communicate and present findings to leadership and peers.
Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to partner and earn the trust of constituents.
