JOB SUMMARY : Responsible for the development of themed environmental graphics and signage from concept through production for all design-related projects throughout Universal Orlando. Must have creative, artistic and illustration ability. Utilizes various drafting techniques and tools (e.g. AutoCAD, ADOBE Graphics software, 3D software, etc.) to draw, draft and create dimensional, scale drawings and models. Responsible for designing to project program and budget. Must have knowledge of various production and fabrication techniques associated with a themed environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops themed environmental graphics and sign packages as needed from concept through fabrication utilizing relevant graphics and/or 3D generating design software. Anticipates and resolves conflicts in a project’s concept design as it moves forward into design development. Provides design solutions for new attractions, as well as for the ongoing needs of all park departments through formal graphics package.

  • Responsible for material and color specifications of all signs, graphics, details, etc. Will review all project-related graphics packages for accuracy of design intent.

  • Ensures project documentation of art and finish specifications, materials specification and design administration. Responsible for providing project-related production files as needed.

  • Collaborates with Graphic Design Manager(s) and internal divisions to maintain Universal’s design intent of ongoing quality control design solutions. Integrate and coordinate all aspects of design intent to achieve the highest quality product and guest experience within parameters given.

  • Maintains quality control of existing park signage and graphics.

EDUCATION: Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school is required. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Graphic Design is preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 5-7 years field experience in design and fabrication of Environmental Graphic Design is required. Themed environmental design is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

High Proficiency: all Adobe Software packages: Illustrator, Photoshop; Microsoft office: Power Point, Word, Excel. 3 D software (i.e.: Sketchup, Revit).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Must be highly creative with a keen eye for graphic design. Have working knowledge of typography and computer design software. Have extensive knowledge of sign fabrication techniques and materials. Have drafting, rendering and presentation skills. Must be proficient in graphic software including PhotoShop and Illustrator. Required to be familiar with industry color standards and limitations. Must be familiar with all applicable state and county building codes, ADA requirements, and FDOT regulations.
